SESSION MATTERS
These are items raised at the Kirk Session meeting in May 2008.
GIRLS’ BRIGADE - The Session congratulated the Officers and the girls on the occasion of their 25th Anniversary as a company in KEMNAY. There will be a Special Service and an open night at the end of May to Celebrate.
CHURCH AND SOCIETY - A questionnaire was sent down by the General Assembly Committee on Church and Society inviting the kirk Session to comment on issues such as alcohol, drugs and addiction, the ethics of defence, growing up in Scotland and markets and justice. An interesting discussion took place and comments were sent on to the committee.
RETIRING COLLECTIONS - A circular sent down from the Law Department of the Church was noted. It gave guidance on the use of special collections at Sunday services. It also provided guidance for retiring collections at funerals and asserting that it was the responsibility of Funeral Directors to arrange for these collections, to identify the charity and provide the charity number. The Session agreed to write to the local Funeral Directors to bring this to their attention.
ADMISSION OF NEW MEMBERS - A Service of Admission will be held on 8th June at 11.00 am.
PRESBYTERY RETREAT - The Session agreed to support the minister in attending this retreat which will look at issues raised following the recent Presbytery Plan.
POLICY PAPER ON GIFTS - The Kirk Session Group set up a small working group to provide guidance on what should happen when gifts are given to the Church and particularly when those gifts are no longer needed.
ANNUAL REVIEW - A booklet produced by the Church of Scotland providing a review of the work of the Church during 2007 is available from the Church Office.
ST ANNE’S CHURCH - A member of St Anne’s Vestry attends our Session meetings and this month we heard of a visit from Bishops from different parts of the world for the Lambethh Conference and one will be coming to Kemnay.
