LOAVES AND FISHES FUND 2008

Each year after costs have been deducted the monies left over from the Coffee shop are put into a Fund, which is then available to encourage service to the community and church at home and overseas. At the end of the year an invitation is extended through the Kirk News and Community Newsletter for groups or individuals to suggest suitable benefactors of the fund.

This year funds totaling £8,200 have been distributed. £1,500 was given to encourage the development of the partnership of Kemnay Church and a Presbyterian Church in Minyara in Lebanon. Three young people visited Kemnay last year and benefited from this fund. Money has also been given to support the work of our mission partners Alistair and Mary Morrices (£500). They work with elderly people and prisoners. Jen Wright (one of our own young people) who is working in Cameroon with the Wycliffe Bible Translators was given £500 to help towards her costs. The Church in the Mart, which takes the Church to the Thainstone Mart and is supported by other local churches, was given £250.
When visiting Malawi with Tear Fund last year, two of our members met and heard the story of Mrs Phoebe Kufeyan who undertaking a course in counseling to help street Children. She was given £300 towards her course. The ‘Light’ aims to reach out to young people in Huntly and was given £150. A major project the Church will be embarking on this year will support what we are doing to serve the community through the refurbishment of our Church building, A sum of £5000 was already agreed by the Loaves and Fishes volunteers. All of the applications received what was asked for or something towards what they requested.

The Kirk Session would like to thanks the many volunteers who help make it possible for us to encourage others in this way. Also the Loaves and Fishes customers and visitors to the coffee shop. Your generosity has helped us provide not only a most desirable and comfortable and excellent coffee shop but also help others to serving others in our church, community and overseas.

BACKGROUND                                                                                                       The coffee shop was established at the beginning of 2001, not long after the Church Centre was opened. Since that time the number of people  using it has exceeded our expectations.                                                                                                              It provides a much needed meeting place for the village. Excellent “home-made” soups bread, jam, scones, cakes and pancakes are available, as well as a large variety of teas, coffees and juices.                                                                                    Special dietary needs can usually be catered for.                                                    The view of the village and Bennachie is spectacular.

Funds were also given to Subh e nau, an environmental and public health group helping with rehabilitation following the earthquake in October 2005 in Pakistan.

Further funds have been provided to support the World Church Group at Kemnay for youth exchanges with our Partner Church in Lebanon. Locally, support was given to a Lunchtime group for young people at Kemnay Academy and also to encourage 12 young people taking part in a trip to Malawi, during which they will be taking part in projects to help local people.

The Loaves and Fishes Fund comes from the surplus money remaining after all costs to the Coffee Shop at Kemnay Church Centre have been deducted.

Each year applications for funds are invited suggesting ways to encourage service at home and overseas are invited from the community and the Church.

Loaves and Fishes would like to thenk their customers who have helped them to raise so much to help others.
