Kemnay Church is a congregation of the Church of Scotland which is a living community of people throughout Scotland and beyond. One of the names by which we are known is the Kirk.

Kemnay Church is set in the beautiful Donside village of Kemnay which has grown from a small hamlet to what is now a busy community with a Parish population of about 4500 people. The village continues to grow . The village is well served with two Primary Schools and an Academy. There is a medical Centre. There are a number of shops and very good recreational facilities including an excellent 18 hole golf course. There is also a sheltered housing complex and a nursing home.

There has been a Worship centre in Kemnay for a great many years. The earliest records we have go back as far as the 16th century, but people have been worshipping here before that. The present Church building was completed in 1894. The Church Centre was the former United Free Church. The Centre was opened in December 2000 after major renovations and refurbishment that now provides an excellent facility for the Church and Community.

We work very closely with St Anne’s Scottish Episcopal Church and share a number of activities and events. We are also a member of Donside Churches an ecumenical group that aims to provide opportunities of coming together to learn and share, reach our and provide fellowship.

Our Mission Statement is ‘For everyone to know, and to grow in Christ, and to spread the Good News to the whole Parish.’  We aim to fulfill this through our worship, work and witness, by encouraging every member of the congregation to use the gifts given to them for the care of each other, the building up of the Church and the outreach to others.

Members at Kemnay Church are encouraged to be in involved in the life and work of the Church and the decision making process through it various Kirk Session working groups and Congregational Board Committees.

Kirk Session has overall responsibility and oversight for the work of the Congregation and does this mainly through Working Groups such as Education, Outreach, Youth, Worship, World Church and Care.  Members who are interested in the these groups are invited to be part of them while at least two elders will also be members and report to the Kirk Session. Each of these Working Groups is given an annual budget.

The Congregational Board is mainly responsible for the property and finances of the congregation. The Board is made up of all Elders plus elected members of the Congregation. The Board committees include Finance and Stewardship, Property, Church Centre, Publications and Social with an additional committee for the Church Project. These Committee are given an annual budget.

DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION                                                                          The Kirk Session has a responsibility to ensure that we fulfill the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act. One way we have responded is making sure our buildings are accessible and we provide, where we can, facilities that help people who are disabled. However, the rights of the disabled go beyond physical things and it is about our attitude and how we treat people.

A leaflet is available providing guidelines for all those involved in working with others at Kemnay Church.
